Maine is the first place we have lived where I know no one. Aaron's Aunt and Uncle lived right next to Fort Drum and made us feel like their children. I also made friends quickly. The girls and I ate, drank, laughed, knitted, cooked and shopped our way through our time in Northern New York. We have all become life long friends!
At Fort Knox, I already sort of had a built-in friendship with Lauren. Although, we had never met in person, we talked over e-mail. Once we did meet, we clicked instantly. That girl can make me laugh!
Marrying a man in the military it is a given you will move a lot. And honestly, I don't really mind it. I like the idea of a new house and a new area to explore. I am getting to see places I never would have seen otherwise. But it does take a while to get used to a new place. It is hard to find restaurants that you like and hair salons that don't mess up your hair. It is always nice to have some around to say 'Oh, you should really try this place. It is great!'.
I only had to fly blind in Maine for a few weeks. God brought a new friend into my life, Sara. Through visiting a friend's blog she found me. She too had been stationed here in Maine for a few years. She spoke/typed very highly about her time here.
She was gracious enough to e-mail me a whole list of places from her time here. There were many restaurants to try. The list was even broken down by type of food! The list mentioned places to avoid, which I always appreciate. There is nothing worse than trying a new place and getting a crappy meal for the price. The list also included hair salons, doggie daycares, fresh food markets, good hospitals, etc...
When I opened the e-mail with the list, I couldn't believe that a stranger would be so gracious and kind to share this with me. Aaron and I have read the list and tried multiple places Sara had suggested. Thanks to her, Aaron has quickly found a favorite Chinese restaurant and I found a favorite deli.
I am sure eventually we would have found these great places but who knows how long that would have taken. Sara has helped to make the transition to Brunswick living seamless. And even though she lives in Nevada, I feel as though I have a friend helping guide me in Maine.
Thanks Sara!

Hey, thanks for finding me! I have always been curious about Maine--it is so far away from any experience of mine. I grew up in Phoenix and then moved to California. The northeast seems so very far away. I will be interested to read about your experiences.
That's awesome!
WOW! Go Sara.
